Understand Your Rights

Resources

The NAACP offers vital resources to fight injustice, including Legal Redress for civil rights violations, tools to report education discrimination, and support for the Restoration of Rights for formerly incarcerated individuals. These services empower communities, ensure accountability, and promote equal access to justice, education, and democratic participation for all.

Legal Redress

Nationally, the NAACP Legal Department maintains an active docket of Civil Rights cases, frequently in conjunction with a team of cooperating lawyers around the nation. These lawyers work daily in the courts alongside the Legal Department to address civil rights violations and forge the way in the fight to prevent the erosion of civil rights law across our nation.

The Culpeper Branch #7058 Legal Redress Committee is responsible for investigating all reported incidents submitted to the branch. The Committee assists our residents and employees in obtaining relief for discriminate acts in Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock Counties in the commonwealth of Virginia. We will carefully evaluate each complaint for evidence of racial, employment, education or housing discrimination. The committee does not offer legal advice or legal representation. Instead, the committee serves as a liaison between individuals needing help and organizations offering quality legal services in our communities. If you need immediate legal assistance, please contact a local attorney.

    Report Education Discrimination

The NAACP-Culpeper Branch 7058 Education Committee assists our residents in finding help and support and, when appropriate, in taking action in response to school-based discriminatory incidents in Culpeper, Madison, and Rappahannock Counties. Please use the following form; someone will contact you as soon as possible.

Which school district does this pertain to (please note that we are unable to address issues outside of our service area)

      Restoration of Rights

The Constitution of Virginia gives the Governor the sole discretion to restore civil rights, not including firearm rights. Individuals seeking restoration of their civil rights are encouraged to contact the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office.

Each person must file an application which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
