Juneteenth

Our first annual Juneteenth celebration in 2024 at Yowell Meadow Park was a huge success! In 2025, we participated in the town’s Third Thursday celebration held near the train station in downtown Culpeper. Rain cut our evening short but we still had fun!

October
Freedom Fund

For more than 40 years, the NAACP Culpeper Branch has hosted a Freedom Fund banquet to celebrate Black achievement, renew our commitment to our mission and the work yet to be done, and raise funds for scholarships and programs. In 2025, we honored Mr. John “Butch” Davies, a longtime civil servant and racial justice champion in our community. Our theme was  Standing Strong in the Midst of Adversity and we were also inspired by an excellent keynote speech by the Rev. Dr. Sheldon Pleasant. Read about our 2025 program here.

Our 2026 Freedom Fund event will be held on Saturday, October 3, at noon! Details to be posted soon!

Workshops, Panels, & Special Events

Education and community outreach are priorities for our branch. Each year, we host engaging workshops, panel discussions, lectures, and other special events to inform and enlighten community members. In 2024 and 2025, we were pleased offer six workshops on First Amendment rights and our Foundational Freedoms in partnership with the Smith Center for the Constitution at Montpelier. Other workshops, panel discussions, and forums have addressed the history of Juneteenth, the importance of equity in education, how to prepare to run for public office, health and wellness, and much more. We also host events to introduce candidates for local and state offices to our members and the community.
